Warriors Gaming Squad Completes Roster For 2019 NBA 2K League Season

 

OAKLAND, Calif. – Warriors Gaming Squad (WGS), the NBA 2K League affiliate team of the Golden State Warriors, selected four players in the 2019 NBA 2K League Draft to round out the teams 2019 roster, which took place today at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. History was made in the fourth round when Chiquita “Chiquitae126” Evans was selected 56th overall by the club, becoming the first woman drafted into the NBA 2K League. The four players drafted tonight join Alex “Bsmoove” Reese and Xavier “Type” Vescovi, who were retained by Warriors Gaming Squad last season. Reese, who was drafted 18th overall (first pick of the second round) in the 2018 NBA 2K League Draft, averaged 12.0 points, 4.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game last season. Vescovi, who was drafted 52nd overall (first pick of the fourth round) in last season’s draft, posted averages of 12.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per contest in 2018.

Tommy Abdenour, who was hired midway through the 2018 NBA 2K League season, will serve as head coach of Warriors Gaming Squad. In addition to his role with Warriors Gaming Squad, Abdenour also serves as Special Assistant to the Head Coach for the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s NBA G League affiliate. Abdenour, a Bay Area native, was a ball boy for the Warriors in his youth and is the son of Tom Abdenour who served as Head Athletic Trainer for Golden State from 1987-2011.

The 2019 NBA 2K League Season will begin on Tuesday, April 2 with THE TIPOFF tournament and will conclude Saturday, August 3 with the 2019 NBA 2K League Finals. Weekly regular season matchups will shift to take place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at the NBA 2K League Studio Powered by Intel in Long Island City, New York. Identical to the 2018 season, the 2019 season will feature three in-season tournaments; THE TIPOFF, THE TURN and THE TICKET. The 2019 NBA 2K League Playoffs will tip off on Wednesday, July 24.
