Week 10 Preview: Two Crucial Series for Warriors Gaming Squad

Warriors Gaming Squad is back in action after a pseudo-bye in week nine, where its lone series against 2019 champion T-Wolves Gaming was postponed to a later date. With WGS sitting at 8-3 on the season, two matchups could be the difference between an almost guaranteed playoff berth and a spot on the playoff bubble.

WGS plays at 6 p.m. PST on both Tuesday and Wednesday night. Both series will be live on ESPN.com and the ESPN App, as well as the NBA 2K League’s Twitch and YouTube channels.

Motor City Matchup

Tuesday night sees WGS head to virtual Motown for a matchup against Pistons GT (3-9) and 2018 MVP candidate Ramo. Pistons GT has improved since returning to its facility midseason and enters week 10 with momentum after sweeping Magic Gaming at the end of week nine. Ramo, reacquired by Pistons GT over the offseason, is the headliner, but fellow offseason acquisition DemonJT, a former Wizards District Gaming first-round pick, has also played well of late, averaging 17.8 points per game. His backcourt mate is former WGS point guard LYKaPRO, now on his third team in three seasons; since being inserted into the starting lineup, LYKaPRO has averaged 15 points per game on 53% shooting to complement JT in the backcourt.

Rookie of the Year Candidate?

Wednesday night’s clash is a big one. WGS visits Bucks Gaming (6-5) in a matchup with serious playoff implications. Bucks Gaming is fighting for its first-ever playoff berth after picking up a huge, come-from-behind win over Jazz Gaming in week nine. Key to the playoff push is Rookie of the Year candidate Regg, the No. 12 pick in the 2020 draft, who currently ranks second in the league in both scoring (33.5 points per game) and assists (8.7 per contest). Regg’s arrival has transformed the team, which already featured deadly sharpshooter Arooks at small forward. The addition of 2018 champion Squidris from Knicks Gaming hasn’t hurt Bucks Gaming either, with the veteran nicely complementing 2019 top-10 pick Plondo in the frontcourt.

WGS got back to its winning ways in week eight, keyed by a huge takeaway to turn the tables on Hawks Talon GC, and continued strong defense should see the team successful in this week’s series.

Home Stretch on the Horizon

Somehow, we’re already in mid-July, and the home stretch of the 2020 NBA 2K League season is on the horizon. Next week features THE TURN Tournament—which WGS won in 2019—and time will look even shorter on the other side of THE TURN. Warriors Gaming Squad will have just three series remaining, two in week 11 and one to be determined (the make-up of the T-Wolves Gaming series), which means that playoffs are coming—and week 10’s matchups could help WGS get there.
