Week 7 Preview: Three-Game Week for Warriors Gaming Squad

Week seven is upon us, with Warriors Gaming sitting tied for second in the standings with a 6-1 record. However, when week seven departs next Monday, Warriors Gaming Squad will be three more games into the 2020 season and should have a much clearer look at the NBA 2K League’s emerging playoff picture. Week seven’s three games, then, are all the more important, especially as the team looks to rebound after finishing THE TIPOFF Tournament 2-2.

WGS also announced its complete schedule for the remainder of the 2020 season, which will continue to take place remotely through week 11. All series are best-of-three matchups, with the series winner earning one win.

The First No. 1 Comes to Town

Warriors Gaming Squad hosts Mavs Gaming (6-3) in its first matchup of week seven on June 25. Dimez, the first overall pick in the inaugural NBA 2K League draft, headlines the Mavs Gaming roster, although he has moved shooting guard in the team’s new dual-ballhandler offense. Sherm, last year’s lockdown defender, has excelled at point guard this season, while PeteBeBallin, the No. 5 pick in the 2019 draft, is third in the league with over 3 locks per game. Mavs Gaming’s starting lineup may also include ByAnyMeansMo (who started at lockdown defender in THE TIPOFF), a former teammate of CB13’s.

Friday Night Magic Show

The team’s second series of the week comes on the road against Magic Gaming (2-6) on June 26. Reizey, the 2019 Rookie of the Year, runs the show for Magic Gaming, averaging 22.6 points per game. In the 2019 draft, Reizey was selected one slot before CB13, who’s averaging 33.1 points per game this season. Magic Gaming also features center May, whom the team acquired in the offseason in exchange for the No. 14 pick. Like WGS, Magic Gaming finished 2-2 at THE TIPOFF, including a win over Kings Guard Gaming, whom they also defeated in week six.

Talented Talon

A rare Monday-night showdown sees WGS take on Hawks Talon GC on June 29 in a make-up of a postponed week five game. Hawks Talon GC revamped its roster this past offseason, swinging a huge deal to bring in 2019 MVP candidate BP from Kings Guard Gaming. The team starts the two players drafted immediately after WGS selected Gradient second overall in 2019: BP went third, while MrStylez—acquired by Hawks Talon in a mid-season trade last year—was selected fourth by Pistons GT.

The Mavs Gaming and Magic Gaming series will be live on ESPN2, ESPN.com and the ESPN App, as well as the NBA 2K League’s Twitch and YouTube channels. Thursday night’s matchup begins at 4 p.m. PST, while Friday’s series has the early tip-off time of 3 p.m.
